YouTube Viewership Hits 1 Billion Hours Of Content A Day

On YouTube’s official blog, they announced that YouTube has hit a remarkable milestone: people are now viewing over a billion hours of YouTube content a day!

A few years back, we made a big decision at YouTube. While everyone seemed focused on how many views a video got, we thought the amount of time someone spent watching a video was a better way to understand whether a viewer really enjoyed it. It wasn’t an easy call, but we thought it would help us make YouTube a more engaging place for creators and fans. And last year, we hit a big milestone on that journey: people around the world are now watching a billion hours of YouTube’s incredible content every single day!

Google Hosted jQuery WordPress Function

By default, WordPress uses a locally hosted jQuery file, but you may not like this and instead, you may want to use Google hosted jQuery library – for speed and or reliability reasons. So, how do you do this? You can do this by adding a function to your theme’s functions.php file.

// Hosted jQuery
if( !is_admin()){ wp_deregister_script('jquery'); wp_register_script('jquery', ("//"), false, null); wp_enqueue_script('jquery'); }

In the above example, Google’s hosted jQuery file will be provided to everyone who is not the WordPress admin and will be placed in the header.

The HTML output would look like this:

<script type='text/javascript' src='//'></script>

You can customize the output by modifying line four (4) of the function (first code example). Let’s take a look:

wp_register_script('jquery', ("//"), false, null);

This is what usage looks like:

wp_register_script( $handle, $src, $deps, $ver, $in_footer );

wp_register_script is a WordPress function in of itself that registers a script. Then we defined the $handle as 'jquery'. Afterwards, we defined the source to be used or $src. We are not going to use any dependencies, so we set it to false. Take we look at $ver which can be a number or null. If you want the number, place the version number around single quotes. So in the example, the script is version 1.10.2. To define the version in the version, replace null as '1.10.2'. The last thing is to define the place where we want the script to be located, either the header or footer. For the header, do not define anything, like we did. However, if you want the script in the footer, replace $in_footer to true.

Ta-da! You just created an awesome WordPress function for a Google hosted jQuery file.

The All New Google Fonts Website

Google has announced an all-new look and feel for their Google Fonts website. Google Fonts currently provides 804 fonts for free. The all new design uses Google’s material design and is powered using AngularJS.
Fonts are now shown in a grid with selection option shown in a panel on the right side. To get more information about a font, you can simply hover over it and if you want to use the font, hover over it and select the plus sign icon shown on the right side of the cell. Once you’ve clicked on the plus sign icon, an overlay will appear at the bottom center of the screen, click on it to get the embed code and customization options.

Fonts are served using Google’s CDN, so you’ll get great speed for serving fonts and no hassles of managing assets.

Whether it’s reading more books, learning a new language or working out regularly, achieving your goals can be really hard. One day it’s “I got called into a last-minute meeting.” The next day it’s “I have a friend in town.” And before you know it, your goals are delayed or forgotten. In fact, with all the things you need to do in a given week, it’s probably harder than ever to find the time—even when your goal really matters to you.
