Hi, I’m Brandon Himpfen — a writer, designer, developer, and open-source creator passionate about building tools, resources, and content that help others learn, create, and explore.

For more than two decades, I’ve been contributing to open source and creating digital projects across technology, travel, and media. Whether I’m developing a new framework, publishing a guide, or building a community resource, my goal is always the same:
make knowledge accessible, empower others, and support curiosity through well-crafted design and open collaboration.

What I Do

Open-Source Projects & Development

I maintain and contribute to a wide ecosystem of open-source projects — from developer tools to digital media resources.
Some of my current highlights include:

• Awesome Lists (awesomelists.io) — Curated collections spanning programming, AI, science, sustainability, digital rights, and more.
• Flight (flightlang.org) — A DSL designed for UAV missions using finite state machines, with unit-checked variables, deadlines, and multiple code generation backends.
• WordPress, npm, & CodePen contributions — Themes, plugins, translations, packages, front-end components, and experiments.

My philosophy is that creativity grows when it’s open — and building in public helps others learn, remix, and build on ideas.

Writing, Design & Digital Publishing

Writing has always been one of my core creative outlets. I publish newsletters, guides, and articles on topics such as:

I run several niche media brands and online communities that bring people together around shared interests:

• Solo Traveler — Guides, tools, datasets, advocacy, and resources for those who travel alone.
• Digital Nomads Network — Supporting location-independent professionals with tips, tools, and community-driven content.
• Travel Bloggers Network — Helping travel creators grow their blogs, improve their skills, and collaborate.
• Bold Outlook Media — A home for insights across digital marketing, web development, and online strategy.

These projects blend content, community-building, and technology — and reflect my belief that the internet can still be a place for creativity, generosity, and meaningful connection.

Current Focus
